Shop With A Cop | CASA Of Westmoreland, Inc

Shop With A Cop of Westmoreland County is in its 11th year of existence. To date, the program has raised $500,000. With that money over 1,000 children who were a victim of crime or unfortunate circumstance have had the opportunity to go shopping with a police officer from their area. These children are taken shopping every year right before Christmas.

COVID-19 may have changed just about everything, but not this tradition. On Monday, police officers from 14 different departments escorted nearly 100 kids through the Greensburg Walmart as part of their 13th annual Shop with a Cop event. CASA of Westmoreland, Inc had the opportunity to join in on this event along with CASA Advocates and their CASA Kiddos. It was great to see the CASA Kiddos walk out of the store with all of their Christmas goodies! CASA of Westmoreland is extremely thankful for this event and the opportunity for our Kiddos- this meant so much to our Kiddos and it was great be around so much Christmas Cheer!

“We are doing some things a little different because of COVID and trying to keep everyone safe,” Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Stephen Limani said. “We have a doctor from Excela Health on hand, he will do a health screening for every single one of the children that are here.”

Kids were also taken through the store in small groups in an effort to remain socially distant and given $150 to bring their Christmas wish list to life. And by the end of the event smiles were hidden underneath masks and carts were filled to the brim. – WPXI
